The establishment, operation and supply of letter post services not exceeding a weight set by regulation, as well as postage stamps and all other franking marks, postal orders and the postal cheque service are subject to the exclusivity regime.

The activities covered by the exclusivity regime are granted to the incumbent operator “Algérie Poste”.

The weight limit has been gradually reduced in four stages:

• 2 kilograms until 31 December 2004;
• 350 grams from 1st January to 31 December 2005;
• 250 grams from 1st January 2006 to 31 December 2007;
• 50 grams from 1st January 2008.

Postal items weighing less than 50 grams are forwarded exclusively by Algérie Poste.
